reflection two years later
September 11, 2003 1:23 p.m.
Two years ago today, everything on my small campus changed. I didn't have class that Tuesday morning, so I had been sleeping in when my mother called me and told me to find somewhere with a TV and watch the news. I ended up in the Fireside lounge watching CNN with Nan and Jan (the cleaning ladies for our dorm) and multiple security guards. I was struck by the absurdity of it all. After watching for less than one hour, seeing the second plane hit, and seeing the tape replayed over and over, I felt incapable of watching any more. I slunk back to my room, showered, and hauled ny ass down to health services for an allergy shot. The classrooms were crammed with people just staring at everything unfolding on TV. The nurses could not believe that I came down for a shot that day. I finally went up to lunch and once again was confronted with multiple TV's in the dining hall. After learning that classes were cancelled for the rest of the day, I went down to Steinbright with the rest of the group. We boycotted the news, opting for a Monty Python fest instead. Around four, we decided to attempt to donate blood. It was a nice thought, but pointless in the long run. They ran out of bags long before we were called in. Later that night, I felt the need to cook, and we burnt cookies in the Steinbright third floor lounge after making my vegan pea risotto and garlic bread. After that, it's all a blur...
Anyway, Happy Birthday Kris... you're the best sis I could every have!
